Fetch My Blade brings journaling games to a new audience

As beloved indie game Fetch My Blade enters its final week on Kickstarter, new data collected by Hit Point Press suggests that the style of game is new to most backers. Using Kickstarter’s new poll feature, 69% of respondents answered “No” to the question “Have you played a journaling RPG before?”

“We’re thrilled for Fetch My Blade to introduce people to the expansive world of journaling RPGs,” said Ricardo Evangelho, founder and CEO of Hit Point Press. “If you’ve never played a journaling game before, Fetch My Blade is a wonderful point of entry.”

Fetch My Blade has raised over $130K US with 1,600 backers thus far. The crowdfunding campaign runs until Thursday, October 15 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

What is Fetch My Blade?

Fetch My Blade is a journaling game where you play as the beloved dog of a retired legendary sword master. You are tasked with a quest: Retrieve your Master’s fabled weapon in time for their final duel. On your quest, you will uncover and explore your Master’s guarded past, transforming your character, deepening your relationship with your master, and ultimately influencing your Master’s fate.

Helping Animals

The Kickstarter campaign for Fetch My Blade will support the game’s creation, but it will also support animal rescue initiatives, as a percentage of profits from Fetch My Blade will be donated to The Puppy Roll. This initiative is a collaboration between Anjali Bhimani and Hit Point Press, and the stretch goal to fund it was unlocked in the first week of the campaign. “We’re big animal lovers at Hit Point Press, and many of us have pets of our own. We’re strong supporters of rescue work, and it was clear that the community agrees,” Evangelho said.

Increased charitable pledges to The Puppy Roll was the second-most requested stretch goal, after additional content in the book.

Together, or Solo?

In a Kickstarter poll, 55% of respondents said that they plan to play Fetch My Blade with friends, and solo. Rules for group play are new to this edition of the game, and backers can look forward to journaling alone, or playing as a group of dogs. The original zine release of Fetch My Blade was featured in Polygon’s story “The best tabletop RPGs we played in 2023”.
