New Year? New Tiers! Patreon tier changes are coming January 2022!
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to create and develop the Big Bads series! With your support, over a span of 2 years, we’ve been able to unleash some truly bad baddies and grow from the humble touch-starved Daniel to a brood of over 25 Big Bads and counting.
As we look towards the future of the series, we’ve decided a restructure of our Patreon tier offerings was important to make sure we focus on building bigger and better Big Bads.
What’s Changing?
PDF Tier Pricing
Starting in January 2022, the PDF tier will increase to $5 a month for new patrons. When we originally started the Patreon with reference cards the cost was in line with the content we were creating, but now that we’re focusing on the Big Bad series, we’ve decided an adjustment was in order to account for the additional content.
Patrons in the PDF tier at the time of the restructure will be grandfathered in and stay at the $2 price until they switch tiers or cancel their pledge. Please see more details on grandfathered tiers below!
Retiring Reference Cards and Physical Silver Tier
Starting January 2022, because of the rising production and shipping costs associated with the physical cards, we will no longer be printing or shipping them for any tiers. Reference cards will still be distributed through the Monthly Print n’ Play PDFs, but we will no longer be offering them as physical cards. The Big Bad promoted in December will be the last one to have physical reference cards.
Though we won’t be sending them out physically anymore, we’ll still be creating new monsters and magic items for you to use and enjoy!
Votes
Because we’ll be focusing less on the reference cards once these changes take effect, we will be pausing votes as we transition in the new year. We love getting your input on rewards and we’d like to review what that might look like going forwards!
Rest assured we will still be creating new monsters and magic items to send your way as digital rewards!
Retiring Signature Tier
By retiring the Signature tier, we will be better able to focus on developing the most important parts of the Big Bad project. Though the Signature tier will be retired, those in the tier at the time of the restructure will be grandfathered in. Please read below for more information!
Greater focus on Digital
To offset these changes we are working on more digital rewards that are sure to please, from assets for your favorite virtual tabletop to STLs of the latest Big Bads! We’re aiming to use this to improve what Big Bads can offer long term. We’re still going to be doing monster and magic items and they will be included as a part of the printed booklet and as a pdf for all other tiers!
Why are you making these changes?
There are a few reasons we’ve made this decision. One of the main reasons is that the purpose of this Patreon has evolved over time--after over 300 reference cards created and distributed, we’ve steadily moved towards the Big Bad series as the focus of this project. Another pretty big factor (see what we did there) is it takes a lot to create the Big Bads--time, resources, printers, cutting and rounding machines, and repairs--and these revisions will allow us to keep creating quality content that you know and love.
Additional factors have also impacted our production and shipping processes. Between the rising cost of paper, production, and increasing shipping costs, we unfortunately end up in the red with every release.
Ultimately, we want our tier offerings to keep our patrons at the forefront as we develop new content for the Big Bad series that we can sustain long term.
How does this affect the current tiers?
Grandfathered Tiers
We will no longer be offering the tiers as they currently exist to new patrons and all tiers will undergo some changes (detailed in the chart below!). Patrons who are in the Bronze or Signature tiers by the end of 2021 will be grandfathered into the new tier structure.
This means that we will honor the Bronze or Signature reward tiers and price until you either switch tiers or cancel. If you are in those tiers, no action is required on your part to be grandfathered in! If you would like to be in either of those tiers beyond 2021, please be sure to sign up before the end of the year. They will no longer be available to sign up for or switch to in 2022!
Please be aware that the following changes will apply to the Signature tier: the booklet stamp will be printed on the page rather than hand stamped, and no physical reference cards will be shipped.
2022 Pledge Tiers
Here is the new tier breakdown for 2022:
$5 - Print n’ Play
This tier will replace the current $2 tier and rewards include the Monthly Print n’ Play PDF. If you’re currently at that tier, no action is required! You will remain at the $2 price until you switch or cancel your tier. New patrons or those who switch this tier in 2022 will no longer have access to the $2 grandfathered tier.
$10 - Digital Deluxe
Replacing the reference cards tier, patrons will receive the Monthly Print n’ Play PDFs as well as VTT assets designed for use with Foundry and a new STL file every month! The assets will be formatted to be used with most Virtual Tabletop platforms and with the STL files you can 3D print your very own Big Bad minis.
$15 - Physical
With this tier, you’ll receive the Monthly Print n’ Play PDF and a physical Big Bad Booklet!
Tier Changes
When will these changes take place?
These changes will take place on January 1st, 2022. If you want to be grandfathered in one of our other tiers, be sure to select your preferred tier before then!
